Let's! Revolution!

Immersive Music & Sound

We collaborated with the animation studio BUCK to create Let's! Revolution!, a colorful puzzle game about stopping a narcissistic king from ruining the fantasy kingdom of Beebom. The debut game for both studios, Let's! Revolution! features strategic turn-based combat that tests your problem-solving skills as you outsmart deadly foes and uncover powerful items and abilities.

We composed and implemented all sound in the game — including a captivating and diverse musical landscape, immersive foley and sound effects, and playful vocalizations based on a made-up fantasy language.

Music

Crafted across Antfood's four studios in New York, Amsterdam, São Paulo & Los Angeles, our soundtrack pays homage to 90s desktop game soundtracks, blending sample-based synths, acoustic percussion, and rich analog synthesis. We created a sonic tapestry that brings that game's concept, illustration, and gameplay to life.

Each region in this retro-futuristic sonic landscape has a unique sound, defined by the geography and characters of each region. Phlox swells with lively melodies and dynamic percussion, inviting a spirit of discovery and adventure.

We used this track to define the game's sound by making it a starting-point for other regions' music. Cymbidium's ancient woodlands echo with churning chord progressions and mesmerizing melodies.

In the mystical lands of Saffron, dreamy chords, ethereal choirs and ritualistic percussion create a sense of enchantment.

In the bustling and carnivalesque capital Beebom City, the music creates an enchanting, festive atmosphere – but listen closely for a nod to the kingdom's darker undertones.

Character Voices

We wanted to give characters expressive voices that would fully immerse players in Beebom, without tying the game to a real-world location. We created a Simlish-inspired language for each character (accompanied by buckets of vocalization sounds) to convey personality and depth while remaining accessible to players around the globe.

To push characterization even further with the King – a despotic ruler, equal parts repugnant and cowardly – we had him perform Salty Wounds, a tongue-in-cheek, self-aware bonus track.

SFX & Foley

To make the world of the game feel more cohesive and tactile, we crafted unique textures and real-world sounds that brought Beebom to life. Our sound design conveys the weight of each individual character, as well as the different surfaces and environments they interact with.

Dynamic Implementation

Finally, we used FMOD and Unity to score randomly generated maps and react fluidly to any scenario in gameplay. These dynamic tools allowed us to create layered foley, generative chance-based musical compositions, and textural evolutions that occur when enemies are encountered.

We utilized tools like randomization to create consistently engaging scores. For example, the shop music generatively mixes melodies, chords, underwater ambience and processed whale songs to create an ever-evolving sonic experience.

Reception

Let's! Revolution! was downloaded in 77 countries and garnered 96% positive reviews on Steam. As the game expands to Switch and other consoles, we are excited for new players to encounter our work and immerse themselves in the kingdom of Beebom.
