Musical Confectionary at Panorama
Working with Emilie Baltz and an all-star crew of artists and collaborators, we turned the action of making Cotton Candy into a bizarre, musical performance at the intersection of food, design and technology.
It's Cotton Candy Time.
This installation was introduced at the 2016 Panorama music and arts festival in NYC, and has travelled to New Inc, the Red Bull Media House and beyond. Cotton Candy Universe remixes the interface of making cotton candy by transforming it into a multi-sensory orchestration of sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. By spinning a cotton candy cone over wisps of candy floss, guests trigger sounds and visuals that create an immersive environment, revealing the interplay between human and digital technology. Bon appetit!
For our part, we composed a wild, high-fructose jam that would be influenced in real time by the actions of the spinner. For better or worse, this turned the cone-holder into a frenetic vocal sampler version of the shake weight.
